This Epson projector is designed specifically to address a need for a very short-throw distance from the projector to screen (less than 3-4 feet.) This unit will fill the image on a 5 foot screen with the projector about 2 feet away. It is a full-function projector with all the standard inputs: 2 VGA with mini stereo audio, both composite and S-Video with dual RCA audio, Serial RS-232 and, LAN RJ-45. Included is a built-in 10 Watt speaker for decent audio in a small to mid size room.
The light output is 2000 Lumens but appears somewhat lower due to, I suspect, the wide-aspect lens. The clarity is ‘ok’ - font definition is good but not great for fine details. Contrast is lacking which results in poor image definition and details for all graphics and pictures. Video is ‘ok' yet somewhat dark due to contrast issues.
Overall, the Epson 410W gets the job done if you really need an ultra short-throw projector. Some uses might be a ceiling mount for rooms that have objects in the way or on the end of a table in a conference room with limited space. Otherwise, I would opt for another unit in the Epson line that might better fit your specific needs. The off-axis viewing angle is not as wide as a conventional projector.
Special Note: The screen must be perfectly flat and still or you will get distortion due to the wide throw lens. This will show up as bowed instead of straight lines or a rolling and wavy image that can make you feel a bit ‘uneasy’.
